What is Kids Making It?
Kids Making It is a 501(c)(3) non-profit youth woodworking program that teaches valuable vocational, entrepreneurial and life skills to at-risk, low income and disadvantaged youth. Our goal for every student we serve is for them to stay in school, stay out of trouble, and transition successfully into either the workplace or college.
Our Apprentice Program
Our apprentice program offers young adults paid part-time positions producing custom orders and laser engraved products, generating revenue that is used to help support KMI’s free public youth programs. It acts as a stepping stone from high school to long-term employment by teaching employable vocational skills, training students to use state-of-the-art machinery (laser engraver, CNC router, etc.) and assisting with job placement.
Visit Our Retail Shop
In addition to woodworking, we’re teaching our students about entrepreneurship. Our kids sell a number of handcrafted items at our retail store at 617 Castle St. Typical items include handcrafted pens, bottle stoppers, salt and pepper grinders, storage boxes, stools, laser-engraved items, custom signs, and funky one-of-a-kind items. 100% of the profits from these sales goes into the kids pockets! Help us carry on our mission of building success one kid at a time.
Since 1994, the caring support of individuals, businesses and charitable foundations has been the driving force behind our work. It is only through the kind and generous support of our donors that we are able to continue our mission of keeping students in school, out of trouble and helping them to transition successfully into college or the workplace.
